AMU is one unfortunate university that has been riddled with innumerous and baseless criticisms; and media has played a bigger role in this. Farid has rightly pointed out that it is as the western media depicts India as a country of snake charmers so does the indian media of AMU students as cheap mongers.
This university has not only produced great scientists, engineers, doctors, politicians, writers......but is still producing them. It only seems that they are overshadowed by the few miscreants who grab the media attention in a jiffy and/or if they are highlighted it seems we forget them.
Good and Bad students are throughout the world and Samuels referring of AMU students as worst is a scrap work of an UTTER IGNORANT and OVERREACTIVE person. Will Samuel call the Indians worst because there are daily strikes and riots and suggest all of us to close(may be...flee)India. His suggestion that the university should be closed is immature and unevolved.
Many universities go through a phase of bad patch; Benaras Hindu University(BHU) which is no doubt an university of repute was marred by students violence and university politics repetitively few years ago. That ofcourse did not warrant it to be closed. Samuels question that why ONLY AMU is in the news for bad reasons refletcs his poor reading and is misleading.
The question that samuel asks regarding the VCs as to why they fail in AMU when they are so successful in other places is THE SAME I would like to ask them. If an organisation fails it is the duty of the head to be answerable and to investigate and suggest means to revive it. Success and failure of a large organisation cannot be attributed to an individual or a single group. Therfore Samuels allegation that students are the only culprits for the downfall of the institute by letting the VCs down is childish.
AMU is a prestigious and a big asset to our country. It will be far better to help it gain once again its golden past than to close it. Help should not only be from its alumni but from all those who envisage a better India tomorrow. A great help can be in the form of refraining from baseless criticisms and rumours and by providing appreciative and positive criticsms. It is a conglomeration of rich and multi cultured elements. It is a place where I have seen people of all religion, caste, creed and culture dining on the same table, laughing, sharing, uniting and moving as one indispensible force that the whole world needs badly.
The primary aim of this review has been to answer the questions that samuel has asked in his review on AMU, ’YEH MERA CHAMAN MAIN APNE CHAMAN KA BULBUL HOON/i>. The secondary aim has been to highlight one of the reasons as to what has fetched a bad name to this institute; spread of abbysmal rumour; hyperreactive criticism without investigation. IT IS UNFORTUNATE that most graded the review high; that review whose first line states Though I have never been to AMU but I have friend....... .
