The story revolves around Dr.Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras who taught Marathi at Aligarh Muslim University. He was sacked from his position of Reader and Chair of Modern Indian Languages, on charges of homosexuality, after a sting operation by a TV channel which showed him in an embrace with a rickshaw puller. The humilliation led him to end his life. Mehtas Aligarh is a brave film; one that ought to be seen. Not just for the great script, spot-on cinematography and stellar performances, but also for being about a cause that needs attention today.
