Alka talkies is the 50 year old single screen theatre with dolby digital sound and satellite projection system. This is one of the theatres which used to play only Hollywood movies for several years.now since last few years they are also screening regional and Hindi movies.
The capacity is almost around 700 people. The theatre is clean and staff is very gentle. These guys are hardcore filmy guys. They have a legacy of around 50 years. My grandfather, my father and me.three generations have been watching the movies here.
The ticket cost is maximum Rs.80/- The sound system and projection system are of average quality. But, I am of a opinion that there are so many regional and Hindi movies which do not need any quality streaming of visual and audio.so for those kind of movie I prefer to go to this theatre. I have seen staff getting old in front of my own eyes. Lol. They are still there.
The first ever movie I saw there was Home Alone 1 and the latest I saw Hero there. It is stand alone building with ample parking space. I just hope that let it stay forever like this.and should not get converted into multiplex. It is a nostalgic experience for all Puneites. The crowd is descent and you can take your family to this one. Canteen is not very good.but you get nice Vada pav there. I just want it to stay as it is.
