I have never been to the college. I never knew I would come to admire it for the audacity and persistance the students have shown in the on going protest against reservation.
They were united against a government in the Centre, which was very powerful. They are still united. The government tried to play all kinds of games, demoralising, police threats, suspension threats, boycotting, arrests and what not.
This is the place from where started a protest which has evolved in country-wide fire against injustice meted out to the students. The heart beat of protests or should I say the pacemaker of the heart of the protests lies in AIIMS.
Celebrities usually help causes to catch limelight, such as narmada bachao andolan, or jessica lal case or gujarat riot victims etc etc....but without any kind of such support, when all political parties and their votebanks were against them, a bunch of doctors decided nothing would stop them, and if they were right they would find light and support, and boy Support they found.......
Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, UP, West Bengal, Orissa, Jharkhand, Assam, Bihar, and even pro-OBC states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu students supported it making a country wide agitation. Without the charisma of any celebrity, or the support of any politicians, these doctors started a fight with whatever sources they had, and its worth taking a lesson from.
They were relentlessly beaten by batons, lathis and Water Sprays, they were hackled and hagged by policemen at the orders of Government. The Sight of the whole thing was horrific, the whole nation watched this brutal incidence with shock...yet the Government has yet to find out the cause or punish the guilty...
The government and High Court are planning now to break them using other means like
court notices and legal issues, but I still feel marvel and proud that as more and more engineering and other students, teachers, parents and Indians join, this protest will become anything but CRUSHABLE!...
3 cheers to the students of such a college for taking the first steps to fight for equality, opportunity and merit against a government which uses 1932AD year’s statistics and considers reservation as the only way for upliftment.....They have given the government a pain, which no one ever thought would give them in the last 59 years of India’s Independence.
TO FIGHT SINGLE HANDEDLY AGAINST An UNJUST, DISCRIMINATING CENTRAL GOVERNMENT AND TO WIN REAL RESPECT AND SUPPORT OF THE NATION’S PEOPLE IS REALLY A BRAVADO....
