If there is one band in the world that I love, it must be U2. The love affair began with With or without you in 1988, and I havent looked back since. Bono, as the spokesperson and the lead singer, wears the mantle with more than competence. His voice has made the hair on my neck stand up on more than one occasion. This band also has my respect for staying together all these years, through all the different stages of growing up. And, thank God, they are not the bad boys of rock (Dont we have too many of them already?)
Anyway, before this becomes a review on the band.............as one other review mentioned, the first track I heard was Beautiful Day and it took me some time to start liking it. My ears actually perked up to Elevation. It seemed to me the music really suited the title. I felt suitably “elevated” after listening to it…..it certainly makes you sit up and take notice.
The love was cemented with “Walk on” and “Grace”. And the lyrics……..their songwriting indicates a depth in the band that is unusual. I don’t know if all will agree, but beautiful, thoughtful lyrics add an unmatched quality to the music. I think careless lyrics takes away from the music……
The band has proved once again that they are proficient with both the slow and hard varieties of rock, and their interaction during the Grammys proved that the band still has the old ‘magic’. Viva U2 !!!
However, I must say that there are no BRILLIANT songs on this album, just damn good ones. ……But the U2 magic makes up for it.
And my recommendation………….don’t miss this latest album from the U2 table. Rock lover’s will like it, and it is a must for U2 lovers.
