Best 4 download, average 4 browsing, poor helpline

I decided to switch from my "Data One home combo- unlimited 512 kbps plan" which was costing me Rs.900/- per month, since it was gradually becoming costlier day by day.

However initially I had a lot of skepticism while choosing a cable broadband like Alliance, since I heard a lot of mixed opinion about it. My main requirement was watching online movies, downloading from torrent and watching you-tube besides normal internet surfing.

I got the connection installed withing 48 hours of intimidating the local cable office (Shristi) in Sakuntala Park, Behala Kolkata. The package I chose is "Prime" costing Rs.620 including taxes.

After using it my instant reaction was that, my Data One connection was far better for watching online movies, since the surfing speed was quite poor. I complained to Alliance. However this experience was horrible. A bunch of idiots sit at their help desk knowing literally a selected jargon only, basically of no help. So I caught the local service provider who improved the service after some tweaking.

However after using the same for a few weeks now I feel that, Alliance is not that bad. Things which are fantastic are: fabulous download speed through their peering site called torbox.net. even torrentz speed is reasonably good.

Youtube watching is a pain most of the time due to frequent buffering. You can expect no help from the so-called help desk, regarding wifi setup .

While you can store your Data One user name and password in your wifi router helping instant connection to your tabs, Dash etc. In alliance you have to login every time to access the internet. Its a little irritating though good from security point of view.

Overall in a nutshell if you want to an average connection at average price with truly unlimited download capacity go for Alliance. But be sure that you’d get enough help from your local cable operator, otherwise you’ll cry.
