A very poor show

As my wife rolls around the floor with Laughter during Ally McBeal, I sit there, asking her to point out what was funny.

Directions, a map-reading, Global positioning? Anything... Just please point out where the humour is?

It has got to be one of the worst programmes on TV. An American attempt at dry wit I think.

Whereas Frasier also fits in this humour bracket, it is aimed at a slightly different market. Ally McBeal is aimed more towards women than Frasier.

They both occupy similar timeslots on Channel 4 but on different days.

I dont like either programme really but I can actually sit through an episode of Frasier.

I liken Ally McBeal to an unfunny version of the hit 80’s BBC2 show, Moonlighting with Bruce Willis.

That was actually good as the characters were not too serious. Ally McBeal tries to hard to portray a serious subject with some serious scenes (lawyers and courthouses).

It fails with its cast of mediocre actors and actresses who are the most idiosyncratic people ever imaginable.

From the episodes I have seen, Ally, the main character, is an unlucky in Love lawyer who works for a practice in the big city. She seems a typical early 30’s single career woman.

Week after week we see her bumble through life with a love life made in hell.

Her office is full of social misfits too

The men in the programme are either portrayed as incompetent or womanisers.

Not very men friendly.

The secretary is shown up in a bad light as being a tart for one of the partners.

The same partner, playe dby an unattractive short man, is supposed to be going out with a tall, leggy blonde with money, brains and a successful career...

Hello?

Welcome to the real world. You cannot combine this make believe sub plot of commedy stereotyped individuals with the serousness of the legal profession.

Now what I dont want is a herd of Ally McBeal fans commenting on how wrong I am about this like everyone always does because....

a) Everyone is entitled to their opinion

b) Im not wrong. Its crap and no one will change my mind. Not even my wife.
