I don’t like to write not recommended reviews until I am forced to do so by something that is too baddddddd ;-) Here I’d like to write about this atrocious & the worse serial on star world - Ally Mcbeal...........
I admit that I did like the initial episodes of the serial where Ally McBeal appeared as a lost soul in a surreal world. She has a new job in a law firm where she meets her ex-flame. Billy is now married & his wife Georgia is working the same firm. So we could sympathise with Ally & hoped she’d find the right guy soon. However, she keeps her eye firmly on seducing Billy & this naturally upsets his wife & breaks his marriage.
Thereafter we realise that something is surely ’wrong’ with this lady, even at work place she lives in her own world of lostlove fantasies, hallucinates, babbles incoherently , is constantly throwing hissy fits & dodging dancing babies !! Her behaviour in the courtroom is even more sickening. Full of drama & making weird faces, she speaks in a squeaky voice & mostly one cannot understand what she is talking about. Her life is now full of lovers & therapy, but there is no happiness coz she is insecure & incapable of maintaining meaningful relationships. I hope there are no real woman who resemble a little bit of Ally. Indeed, while watching her one would feel thankful to god for being to kind to us & we would end up feeling much better about our own shortcomings.
David Kelley, has some really good shows on Star World but with Ally McBeal he has failed miserably. Ally’s character is so annoying & degrading to females, I wonder if they really have any female audiences out there who appreciate this serial?
I also wonder if men would actually like to share life with a character like Ally? Even if we grant her having the stuff that men fantasize about, how long can anyone stay happy with a ’’good looking short-skirted’’ yet neurotic, obsessive female? lolz ;)
The other characters are even worse than Ally.
The men - her bosses John Cage [brilliant but eccentric verging on mental] & Richard Fish [unscrupulous moneymaker & womaniser with no regrets]- & colleagues - are all sexist.
The other females - her colleagues - Lin a rich woman who is as heartless as she is unsuspectingly caring. Nell a blond career woman uninterested in men and family. Elaine the nymphette secretary - are all sex-crazed.
Her clients are either juveniles or neurotic or physically impaired [making fun of them is really bad taste]
Do I need to say more?
If there is one thing that’s good & worth mentioning in this show its Vonda Shepard, she plays herself [a singer] in this serial & her voice is great! The songs are lovely too........... till the camera zooms to the disgusting moronic face of Ally, mouthing the wordings & spoiling the whole aura of the song !
Overall, Ally reminds me of our purple gorilla Bonzi Buddy who was at first an amusing companion but later on he really got to our nerves ! I think Ally Mcbeal can easily be called the Female Bonzi Ape ! lolz ;)
