Alone Movie Review - In Company Of Spooky Drama

Expectations:

There was a time when horror films in our Hindi cinema were mostly made by the Ramsay Brothers followed by Mohan Bhakri and a few more. Most of these films had few regular faces such as Deepak Parasher, Raj Kiran, Javed Khan, Hemant Birje, Navin Nischol, etc. Mahesh Bhatt’s’Junoon’ and Ram Gopal Varma’s’Raat’ were the first steps to raise the bar of Hindi horror films followed by many films like’Bhoot’, ’Raaz’, ’1920’, etc.

Though, Emraan Hashmi was there in a few of these horror films, but the most popular face among todays actors in horror films is of Bipasha Basu. Bipasha was seen in many horror films like’Raaz’, ’Raaz 3’, ’Darna Zaroori Hai’, ’Aatma’, ’Rakth’ and’Creature’. Her latest offering is’Alone’ and the sizzling promos have created a good amount of curiosity. So, let’s find out whether’Alone’ will be another winner in Bipasha Basu’s hit horror films basket or might suffer the same fate as her last film’Creatur’Â did.

Story:

’Alone’ is a story of two conjoined twin sisters Anjana & Sanjana(Bipasha Basu) who gets separated after a surgery. Sanjana only survives the surgery and later marries her childhood love Kabir(Karan Singh Grover). Sanjana’s mother(Neena Gupta) suffers a head injury due to which the couple have to come back to their native place. In her native place Sanjana could feel the presence of Anjana and starts experiencing supernatural activities. What happens next is what the entire film is all about.

Screenplay & Technicalities:

The story is an official adaptation of a Thai horror film of the same name. The movie runs on a slow narrative style and gains its momentum only towards the middle portions of the film. There are few scenes which will give you good amount of chills and thrills, especially in the first half of the film. Sadly the horror part starts to dilute as the movie enters in the second half and drifts towards the dramatic stuff. The screenplay keeps you engaged in the second half of the film, but ends up on a predictable twist. The hide and seek between the spirit and Bipasha takes a lot of time, followed by repetitive night shots which tends to test your patience. The movie should have been point to point with little trimming in the middle portions of the film. The camera work is good and the special effects are decent in comparison to many of the recent so called horror films. The locations of Kerela are breath taking and adds as a positive point in favor of the film.

Music & Direction:

The music is haunting and soothing. Songs like’Katra Katra’ and’Aawara’ sounds good and has good visuals attached to it. The eroticism in’Katra Katra’ works in the favour of the film.

Director Bhushan Patel completes his hat-trick of horror films with’Alone’. He adapts the original film and does decent justice to it. He excels in the music, drama and erotic scenes but fails a bit on the horror front. If only the horror element would have been more in the second half the movie would have ended on the positive note.

Performances:

Bipasha Basu in twin avatar is good and does her part with total grace. She has excelled herself in such types of films and one can feel her real fright. Karan Singh Grover will be like a candy treat for all his female fans. He looks smashing but fails in the dramatic scenes. He stutters in certain scenes and needs to work over it. Zakir Hussain and Sulbha Arya are fine in their parts. Neena Gupta was wasted.

Final Verdict: So bol meri "FILMI KHOPDI" iss film mein kitna hain Dum?

Dum? Well the movie has few good spooky scenes along with romantic songs and few erotic moments. The die hard horror fans will be disappointed as the horror part goes missing in the second half of the film. Nevertheless’Alone’ is a better made horror film in comparison to many others we have seen in the name of Hindi horror films and has will give you good company of spooky drama associated with it.
