Finally a chance to watch a late night movie with a friend! When I first watched the trailer for this movie, I didn?t want to watch it. Mainly due to the fact that I hate Ben Stiller and also cuz the trailer showed some pretty disgusting comedy scenes. However this was the only movie that was short enough for me to get back home before my dad did! So my friend and I decided to give it a shot.
The Plot:
Reuben Feffer (Ben Stiller) is an insurance risk analyst. He only does something after checking the risks for doing it in his computer. The movie opens with Reuben getting ready for his marriage. After Reuben and Lisa (Debra Messing) exchange vows according to the Jewish customs, they leave for their honeymoon in St. Kitts.
During the honeymoon they meet Claud, a French nudist scuba diver. He invites Lisa and Reuben to learn scuba diving. Lisa is excited and wants to go but Reuben is hesitant. After checking with most of the hotels around the area that Claud is the best scuba diving instructor (he doesn?t like to takes risks you see..we call these kind of ppl kiasu is in Singapore), Reuben finally relents. However when we reaches the boat, he gets scared and asks Lisa to go enjoy herself without him. When he returns to the boat few hours later, he is shocked to find Lisa and Claud in bed. Later Lisa tells him that she is love with Claud and is planning to stay with him. Reuben goes back to New York.
Back in New York, everyone sympathizes with Reuben, including his best friend Sandy. Sandy brings Reuben to a party one day where they meet Polly Prince (Jennifer Aniston) who was their classmate from middle school. Reuben is intrigued by her and calls her out on a date. She chooses an ethnic restaurant without knowing that he hates spicy food and his stomach can?t hold it. The events that follow are just too hilarious to describe. She turns his risk-free world upside down with spicy food, Salsa lesson and a lot more things!
Finally when Reuben and Polly are in some kind of relationship, Lisa returns. She says she is sorry for whatever that has happened and wants to reunite with Reuben. Reuben is confused and seeks the aid of his computer program to compare which one has a lower risk (living with Lisa or living with Polly). Using the results he decides to remain with Polly. Polly finds out about it and what happens eventually is the rest of the story.
My Opinions:
The movie was just too hilarious. The chemistry between Ben and Jennifer was good (but maybe not good as Bennifer if you know what I mean). Others have played their part well. The scenes you have to watch out for are Reuben?s reactions in the ethnic restaurant, the scenes in the Salsa club, his meetings with the rich guy who he is supposed to evaluate (to see if the company can insure him), particularly the scene in Polly?s toilet and of course the scene in the bar where he will tell Polly why you shouldn’t eat the nuts placed on the bartop. Like I said before some of the comedy scenes are disgusting but they do the job is making laugh. However I thought the movie was pretty short. Only 90 minutes long and it went so fast that I didn?t even realist it.
I would recommend you guys to watch the movie if you really want to laugh and also at the same time don?t mind being disgusted. Another reason this movie is worth watching is due to the sexy Salsa instructor and the dance sequences between him and Jennifer. By the way Ben calls Salsa dirty dancing and the way he goes on about it is just too funny! After enjoying the movie and having a nice chat with my friend on the way back, I reached home at 11.30pm and luckily my dad wasn?t back home yet!
