There are power brands, and there are ever better power brands. Then once in a century, comes a service like Amazon.com which defies distinction.
While e-commerce is in its infancy in India, Amazon.com has been around since a decade.
I first purchased from these guys in 1999 while I was in Los Angeles. Needless to say, I was amazed at the bargain basement prices, 3 day FREE delivery and superior tracking.
When I got back to India, there were many products which I wanted, but were unavailable here, or available at exorbitant prices. Ex. A Canon HV20 HD camcorder($600 back in 2007(Rs. 24, 000) on Amazon, while it retailed in India at over Rs. 75, 000).
However, this review is not about the pricing, but about superior customer service.
I made 6 transactions in the last week to purchase a pair of Nintendo Wii’s and Wii Fit’s(unavailable in India). There was a discrepancy in their free shipping, which said they can only ship a week later, so I was forced to upgrade to expedited 3-day shipping and pay for it. When I upgraded shipping, the order status got updated to same day shipping(not after 7 days). I wrote to Amazon about it, and within 6 hours, they issued a refund of$11 for shipping. They apologized for the inconvenience, no questions asked.
I cannot even imagine any other organization in India or in US, that trusts its customers and takes decisive action within even a month, after countless follow-ups.
Needless to say, the items were delivered(as usual), before the estimate supplied by Amazon, and the transactions were smooth.
I would recommend this service, esp. if you have anyone coming down from US. Use it for hassle-free shipping(FREE) to your acquaintance in US who can bring it for you to India. You can rest assured, their prices are the lowest in the world. Plus, NO TAXES!
