Last week, I flew on American Airlines from London Heathrow to Chicago. This is my experience. I travelled Economy.
Check in was smooth, Adequate number of counters were open, so I did not have to wait long. Staff was courteous and friendly. Security on American Airlines is tight, which is ok considering the current circumstances. They allocate groups on your boarding passes which is as per the seating. Boarding is called in sequence of these groups. This made the entire boarding process very smooth and fast. I believe the entire aircraft boarded in 10-15 mins.
We were in a Boeing 777. Seat pitch was comfortable, however the aircraft had a 2-5-2 seating arrangement so if you are in one of those middle seats, then its going to be a very painful journey.Aircraft was clean, however a bit run down..it had seen better days. Having said that the seats were comfortable.
Excellent service from the flight attendants, Everyone greeted with a smile. Drinks cart rolled down the aisles right after take off. Alcohol was sold on board and was not free, however they were quite generous with the non alcoholic drinks, I think they made the drinks run 6-7 times during the 8 hour flight.
Lunch was served an hour after take off and was Ok. Excellent Pizza was served an hour before landing.
The downside, the Entertainment System. Choice was limited to around 10 movies, which I believe is quite inadequate in the face of competition from Jet Airways, British Airways and Emirates with the on demand Personal Entertainment system with the last releases available. They need to work on that.
The captain kept the seat belt sign on for around 5 hours on the 8 hour flight. Guess he was a bit paranoid. But it meant waiting a looooong time just to go to the restroom...quite uncomfortable.Overall flight departed on time and arrived before schedule and I give them full marks on that.I would fly them again.
