My husband has 2 american express credit cards. being charge cards, the amount due has to be paid up immediately and not in small instalments as is the case in credit cards. being american express, one would assume that they will not give out their card to just anyone who applies. there is a prestiege issue attached to the card. right? WRONG!
a few months ago, due to some descrepancies in the statement of accounts, my husband had not paid the amount due to the company. however he had spoken to the relationship manager assigned to him and they had come to some sort of understanding regarding the payment procedure.
on december 16th, at 10:30 in the morning I recieved a call from a lady who rudely asked for my husband. I informed that he was at work. she passed the phone to another woman who went on to ask me what my husband;s problem was and who does he think he is. I asked her to atleast identify herself and where shes calling from befor being so rude. she gave me the name of a high level executive of american express delhi branch(i didnt know that, I was infromed of that later). her next sentence stunned me. along with choice expletives(all in hindi, this entire conversation took place in hindi) she called me a "Muslim Paidayish" an if I didnt have the "aukaad" to pay up, why do I use the credit card?
needless to say I was angry and hurt. I could not believe she used a racial slur on me, for no reason, and even when I am not a ccard holder. what was my fault? picking up the phone? there was an altercation of sorts that followed in which expletives were exchanged back & forth and nothing really came out of it. I asked for her address and she passed the phone on to the first caller who gave me the address of their BKC branch(i didnt know that either). this lady also responded to my threat of bringing cops & charging her for harassment with abuses and a statement like: bring them on well see what you do.
weve complained to AMEX, emailed them, spoken to them, but aside from a non apologetic letter stating that they are "investigating " the matter, nothing has been done about the incident. if my husband calls, they either dont answer, or buy more time.
An american express card holder, according to this company, never gets irritating calls from the collections department due to its charge card properties. we not only got called, but I got an earful of abuses as well.
they asked us to give them time to sort out the matter and we have been decent enough and given them their time, but they are cocky enough to mistake our decency for submissiveness.
thats service for you!
