This is not your regular credit card that you can pay so much a month on and pay in installments like other credit cards. They do have one like that but that is not the main one that they offer and you might not know about it without asking.
The regular American Express card you are given no limit or at least that was my experience. Whatever you charge in one month though has to be paid in full when the statement comes in so make sure you don’t charge more than what you will have to pay within 30 days.
I would recommend the card for travel purposes or emergencies but only for that use. For other things I much prefer Visa or Mastercard.
Visa would be my first choice as it seems to be more highly recognized than the other two.
With any credit card though the interest is quite high and I mainly use mine for emergencies or for ordering on line.
If I need to make a purchase which is more money than what I have at the time I prefer using a store layaway plan that costs nothing in fees but of course you don’t get the item until it is fully paid for so if it is something I really need in a hurry then I will use a card and if the amount is not too high I would use the American Express.
It is all a matter of personal choice. As far as the company goes I have found that customer service is very friendly and helpful and if there is a problem they will fix it right away.
I was young when I got my American Express and didn’t know that much about credit cards and assumed I could pay monthly and I went out and charged over three thousand dollars worth. Then I got the bill and found out I had to pay it all at once and went into a panic.
I called the company and explained and they worked out a payment plan for me. Since then of course I know better than to use it as a regular charge card.
