There are very artists who can come with good albums nowadays , with the ability to download a particular song , consumers dont really have to bother with the rest of the album , chances are it’ll be crap anyway .
Thats why this album is so different , yes its a concept album , yes its about three central characters and blah blah blah , but the main strength is the fact that each and every song on the album could stand alone as a single . Much like the clash’s london calling or the sex pistols nevermind the bollocks , green day find a way to salvage each song and its strengths. They may never be as good as the aforementioned albums , but its refreshing to see a band in this day and age try to come up with more than just the hit single.
What also helps is green days lyric writing , songs like holiday , jesus of suburbia , and homecoming are pretty well written , holiday easily being one fo the best songs ever written in a long while.
Green day never lose their chance to be the comic band they always said they were . some of the 9 minute songs reek of ’’lets just put it whatever we want ’’ but its well worth the limited effort.
No one will ever write a concept album like the WHO and contrary to what people say I dont even think green day were , but basing the album around three main characters and mentioning their names after every chord change becomes a tad bit too repetitive. The 10 minute songs try to blatantly rip off TOMMY , but hell if you’re gonna try and copy a band , might as well be the best .
All in All the albums pretty good , album being the imperitive word , listen to it in one go , then listen to your particular favorites again . I know I had many songs I called the best in the album but honestly pretty much all of them are
Oh yeah wake me up when september ends is probably going to be huge hit and everyones going to say its the greatest song ever , but compared to the rest of the songs on this album , its pretty weak ..and honestly too labourious and boring .....but dont say I didnt warn you about it playing every other minute on the video channels.
Its easy writing a review for an album when you dont have to repeat the name of one particular song thrice in the same paragraph ....so I hope this gives you a good idea of the choice of songs this album offers.
