A versatile genius

Amit Kumar one of the versatie singer was born on 3rd july 1952 to kishore kumar and Ruma Devi

His soprano voice still kindle our heart and soul. He is the songster of the millenium with his own inevitable style though for a certain crowd his voice replicate his father’s

Amit’s first hindi song was actually “Main Ek Panchhi Matwala Re” from ‘Door Ka Rahi’ but his father being the composer, filmmaker, writer, actor of the same, found it to be inappropriate according to the situation and so eliminated it from the film. He got chance to sing for Swapan - Jagmohan in “Darwazaa” but not realeased. Then Salil Chowdhury tried Amit in “Zindegi Ek Zua” but it was also shelved. Madan Mohan gave Amit a chance to sing with Asha Bhosle in Chalbaaz but unfourtunately it also got shelved. Amit got few releases like “Aandhi”, “Jaan Hazir Hai” but didn’t get fame. Balika Badhu’s, “ Bade Achhe Lagte Hai” gifted him recognition

Trivia

As per reference of great singer Manna Dey Amit started learning classical music from Ghulam Mustafa. He was there for only six months. Then in 1987 after Kishore Kumar’s death Amit took lesson of classical music from Satyanarayan Ji of Banaras Gharana for two years

On the release function of Amit Kumar’s Private Album ‘MAD’, Pancham Da gave Amit a great compliment “Amit you are ahead of your time. But it is also true, it is a flop project. Reason is no one can understand whatever you have made

Even though being immensely talented Amit Kumar went through a lean phase of his career in the late 90s and was not appreciated as per his potentiality due to his mere destiny

Amit displays his extreme simplicity and lucidity and inspite of his extraordinary attainments, which makes him stand out among all other singers of this generation
