The most beautiful, place I’ve ever been to. You’ll want to spend at least 2-3 days in Amritsar, and take in the Temple during the day as well as at night. Absolutely breath-taking, and welcomes people from all walks of life. During the busiest times, it can take an hour or two of waiting to get across the gilded bridge to pay your respects in the inner sanctum of the Temple. But it is well worth the wait! Once you have this experience, don’t forget to partake of some of the blessed Prasad from the sevadars. Afterwards, you can also enjoy a free vegetarian meal at the Golden Temple Langar Hall, which is a wonderful experience. Definitely an experience you’ll never forget!
Also, don’t miss the museum upstairs near the Clocktower entrance. A good place to learn about the Sikh religion, history, important figures in the religion, as well as Amritsari/Punjabi history. Its easy to miss this wonderful feature of the Golden Temple, so I’ll attach a map in the photos to make it easier to find.
Shopping in Amritsar is great too.Punjabi suits, juttis( shoes), jewelry, Sikh religious good, instruments, food.not overly costly, and good quality. The food in this city is the best I’ve tasted anywhere in India, so do try it! And you can find good hotels near the Temple itself, or a bit further off if you’d prefer to stay away from the noise. In that case, there are plenty of taxis/rickshaws or the free bus the goes to the Temple from various points in the city.
Other points of interest in the city are Jallianwallah Bagh, which is just a few meters from the Golden Temple itself. Also, Wagah Border evening ceremony is always a wonderful experience. I had VIP EXPERIENCE:) IT WAS GREAT! The bazaars, beautiful Gurudwaras, gorgeous countryside & amazing food will linger in your mind forever.
