Well, Amuls Kool brand of flavoured milk has been on the market for more than a year now, and yes, you may be wondering, whats so great about flavoured milk? Arent there enough local varieties also available?
I would say, well, yes, there are, but then Amuls new line of Kool now has a 1 litre tetrapack, like Fruit Juices. I have seen some, not all, flavours of Amul Kool in the new 1 litre tetrapack, they are, Kesar, Elaichi, and Mango.
Personally, I like only the Kesar flavour of Amul Kool, the Mango tastes simply horrible, a bit like they took Maaza Mango and mixed it with milk, i.e. it tastes a bit salty I think. The elaichi and strawberry flavours, for me at least are just ok.
But now to their new 1 litre pack:
It has a look similar to the remaining product line, but since it is a tetrapack, it can last longer and is easier to carry. One grouch though, there is no instant opening and closing flap like for e.g, in Tropicana or Real fruit juices, so you need a knife to open the pack.
But then the drink quite makes up for all of it, it is best to have this drink cool as it improves the taste greatly. It is flavoured milk, so it is nutritious, unlike all those dissovle-your-teeth colas like Pepsi or Coca-Cola, and best of all, is its price, the 1 litre pack costs just Rs. 40, making it much cheaper than the Rs. 70+ fruit juices like Real or Tropicana.
Its competitor may be Maaza or Frooti mango drinks as they are the only ones a bit cheaper than it.
I got my pack of Amul Kool at Rs. 35, a Rs. 5 discount from the store, since it seems the new tetrapack variety has not been very popular.
So Amuls Kool, at the 200ml glass bottle range (priced at Rs. 10) is a flavoured milk product with too many local competitors, its 1 litre tetrapack, however, is in a class of its own, quite literally!
