Amway was started by Rich DeVos and Jay Van Andel in 1959 in Minnesota, Today its one of the world’s largest and leading direct selling companies operates in 90 countries across the world. Amway product line consists of Home care, Personal care, Nutrition and Wellness, Commercial and Agricultural products and its products are not available in any Stores. Amway started operating in India from 1995 and it’s the largest direct selling company in India. Amway founders philosophy “ The right of Individuals to own his/her own business played a major role in getting together lakhs of independent distributors in India.


Amway has more than 45 offices in India spread across almost all major cities. It has invested more than 250 crores in India and helping India economy, by providing world class products, employment to thousands of people. Amway direct selling proposition yielded better results in terms of financial freedom strengthening ones financial stability those who were willing to devote few productive hours a day by sponsoring others without disturbing your actual existing business or employment. Amway did not believe in fancy advertisements, brand ambassadors or distributorship or dealers for that matter to sell its products. The products were purchased directly by individual distributor for his own use there were no mediators.


Thus Amway could pass on its profit share to its Individual distributors by way of Discounts & commissions. Here the business opportunity is by he/she joining under someone as a distributor and by way of sponsoring 9 people, those 9 sponsoring 54 people and these 54 sponsoring 162 individuals, making a strong 226 people group. Amway never ventured in to any sorts of advertisements till 2006 end, but now we could see several advertisements on Amway. Wonder what made them to go for advertisements? Is it the declining trend on its Individual distributors ? Or due to product competition in market in terms of cost? Or to match with similar products available in market?
