Can a Telugu movie be this good??

Anand is definitely a refreshing change from the usual , run-of-the-mill movies that clog the telugu film industry today. The story is fairly straightforward where the viewer knows the conclusion long before the movie ends . But the manner in which the subject is treated is what takes the movie out of the banal.

A dejected young woman , brilliantly essayed by Kamalinee Mukherjee, tries to rebuild her life after a tiff with her prospective mother-in-law on her wedding day ends in a breakup. The hero (whose name I do not recall) , who happens to witness the tragedy , is bowled over at her independence and resolves to win her love. How he does it forms the rest of the movie.

The film bristles with hilarious episodes , especially the ones showing the hero’s initial attempts to attract her attention that promptly end up with egg on his face.

What really makes this effort great is the sensitivity and finesse with which the director deals with feminine beauty.

This low-budget movie, made at a cost of just 18 lakhs, surprises with its visual imagery. The heroine is extremely beautiful and acts naturally (pardon the oxymoron). Her friend and ’’bridesmaid’’ Anita is simply terrific. Her sharp repartees and vivacity light up the proceedings. The manner in which a scene, involving the heroine when she goes after him when he makes an indiscreet remark, to the effect that she looks sexy from behind , is dealt with underlines the refined tastes of the director.

The settings are natural and true to life. The dialogues are crisp and down to earth. Not a scene is out of place.

This movie is a must see. Hope more such movies are made.
