Decent thriller

Anasuya is a well made thriller with good performances from the lead cast.

The beauty of Anasuya lies in the narration of the movie.

Coming to the story line...Anasuya is recruited in a Telugu news channel as an undercover reporter. She succeeds in dealing with her first assignment successfully. She is given another complicated assignment and how this assignment affects her personal and professional life is the remaining story....

The beauty of the movie is the novelty in the script and treatment. Let’s talk about various departments of the movie

1) Story: This is definitely a novel story for Telugu audiences. We have been seeing different genres of cinema but this story is absolutely different. The director touches on various burning issues through this...like the child labor, organ donation etc.,

2) Performances: Bhoomika has given a very good performance. But I feel that her character somehow flows with the story and there are very few scenes which bring out the real artist in her (unlike Missamma).

Abbas character, though part of the story, doesnt have much significance. His performance is decent considering the limitations of the character.

Other characters including Sameer, harshavardhan, Sharat (who played Anasuya’s boss) and the child artist have done a decent job. Nikita, in a cameo, has performed well. Ankita appears during the opening of the movie and there is nothing significant to comment about her performance as the footage of her character is very less.

Ravi babu is the real show-stealer in the movie. His character has different shades and he performed to the tee. He tonsured his head and eyebrows to bring a different look to the character and his dedication should be applauded. I am sure this character will be a turning point in his career.

3) Technical details: Photography by senior Cameraman Sudhakar Reddy is good. His camerawork during the climax is awesome (Supported by good DI work). Music by Shekar Chandra (Son of senior cameraman Hari Anumolu) is decent. There  are only two songs in the movie which are decent. But Shekar scored good marks through the background score which is very good. Other departments like Editing (Marthand K Venkatesh), art work, fights (Kannal Kannan) are good.

4) Dialogues, Script & Direction: The script has novelty in it.  Dialogues by Nivas are good. Parachuri Bros have put in their experience in coming out with good screenplay. Its a big risk to reveal the killer in the beginning of the movie. However Ravi babu and Parachuri Bros came out with flying colours in keeping the audience glued to screen with their screenplay and execution. Although very little, there are few hilarious scenes involving Sameer and Bhumika and the director should be commended for having situational comedy instead of a seperate comedy track. The direction is very good. Here are a few examples of directoral brilliance:

  • Abbas telling Bhumika that the killer is calling from her own mobile by tracing the mobile number.

  • Bhoomika using the "Maro Charitra" song to trace the killer.

  • The child’s character which seems not - so - important character, proving out to be the most important character which helps Bhumika in tracing the killer.

  • Climax (though prolonged) is good.

However, the climax and the Nikita’s episode could have been trimmed.

Overall, Anasuya is a well made thriller and is a must watch for people who love watching crime thrillers.

I would say that movies like Anasuya are the requirement for a formula - driven Telugu film industry. Six songs (including an item song - for sure), four fights, some so - called Masala scenes...its been so boring watching these formula - driven movies and ANASUYA for sure is a revelation.
