If u thought ‘ kannathil Mutthammittal’ and ‘ Bombay “ were realistic, then take a bite of this.
KamalHassan’s latest offering ‘ Ambe Sivam’ is a piece of extraordinary cinema which portrays life and reality like never before. It is sucha n eye-opener that u begin to question your very basic feelings of anger, judgment and love
The story begins with Nallasivam(kamal) who is a man whose face bears a lot of scars , of harsh life, unrequisited love and despair who is picked up by a police thanks to a tip off from A, Aras(Cute cuddly Madhavan) who is suspicious of this man due to his appearance.Once he is proved wrong begins a journey for them together due to torrential rains striking orissa they are forced to give each other company to reach Chennai. The two characters are staunchly different . Nallasivam is a man who experienced the reality of life who is patient and understanding , a man despite his disfigurations tries to stay cheerful and do his bit to making the society a better place. But Ambarasu is your typical yuppie- a Ad-man who thinks everything runs on money, credit cards and nokia handsets and a guy who thinks he has done everything there is to do in life and needs no guidance or advice. How Aras is proved wrong and how in the end faith in mankind triumphs over materialistic motives is ‘ Ambe Sivam’ for you.
KamalHassan after a long time gives us one of his classic performances , probably one of his best after ‘ Nayakan’ and ‘ thevarmagan’ . Madhavan who has proved his mettle again and again as a romantic pin up boy does a brilliant job as the arrogant, fast Aaras. The scenes particularly are so well written that it seems like yday when it happened to you. One particular scene I must mention which is simply outstanding is when there is a train accident and there is an urgent need for AB – ve which happens to be Aras blood group he initially refuses pointblank but the transition he undergoes after seeing the little boy who is going to be the recipient of that blood , the bonding between him and the little boy and the pain he feels at the loss of the boy’s life is the brilliant Transformation of the “ I can do everything “ Boy A. Aras to the “ I wish I cld have done more “ man Ambarasan . Simply outstanding.
The film has no brilliant story but is simply snatches of reality put together for you , reality bites we fail to see and continue to live in this superfluous materialistic world.
I don’t have the age or the experience to advice people but ye s I can make a request to all the MS members.- Never fail to do your bit thinking it is too small or wont make a difference , to sumone who is in need of it will make a big time difference . and by help I dnt just menat monetary but even a pint of blood, a sympathetic ear and a cheerful smile can make a a world of difference to sumone whose life you will probably touch unknowingly . and the most vital thing of these favours are – never expect Gratitude or recognition . Do it for sumone as a duty to mankind , coz who knows tomorrow you may be at the receiving end. This is sumthing I realized after the movie ultimately it is not there branded Tee I wear or the nokia handset number that counts , it is wat I have given back to society which makes me feel a better woman .
So all those who can catch tamil movies , Plz do watch ‘ Ambe Sivam’ not for just entertainment but for some serious soul stirring moments .
