Hats Off To Andre Agassi.

I am a great admirer of this man, and I was heartbroken when Mark Philopousis of Australia defeated him yesterday in the 4th round of Wimbledon 2003 in five sets. It took Mark Philippoussis 46 aces (all time Wimbledon high) to upset the No 2 seed Andre Agassi. This is what Andre Agassi had to say in the post match conference which makes me admire him even more.

Agassi: I am dissapointed because of this loss, but winning grand slams is special and if I or anyone keeps doing it then its not special anymore. I am glad as I’ll be spending quality time with my family and because I haven’t won, I’ll be able to think of what went wrong, and hopefully come up with something better next time.

If anyone is feeling a letdown in his/her life, consider Agassi as an example and take inspiration from this fighter. Andre Agassi was written off by all the critics a few years ago, and his ranking dropped from top ten to 141.At that time, Andre had not only failed in tennis, but his married life was also in a turmoil as he was getting divorced from his wife, Brooke Shields.

Andre however had a point to prove, not to his critics, not to his fans, but to himself. For sake of self respect, he went back to tennis (his first love), and due to his hard work, commitment, sincerity, and extreme hunger he won the French Open in 1999 and within 18 months he jumped from a rank 141 to rank no 1 in the world. A feat no one has yet achieved in the history of tennis. Despite his recent loss in the Wimbledon, Andre Agassi currently is ranked No 1 in this world and at age 33 he is the oldest ever to be ranked no 1 in tennis.

Andre Agassi is the best returner of the service game and his fighting qualities are unmatched. It’s hard to find a flaw in Andre Agassi’s game, his forehand and backhand are both solid and he places his shots to perfection. Andre Agassi is a base liner but he doesn’t misses many at the net either. The only weakness if any that Andre has is his serve which is not very fast but he relies on his placement and more often than not he places his serve to perfection.

Andre Agassi might not win a grand slam again, but he has won a million hearts and he will always remain a true champion.
