Angeethi is a rural punjabi dhaba recreated in the hep n happening Road#1, Banjara hills in Hyderabad. If not for the air conditioning and the hep crowd, the interiors would literally transport u to rural punjab where hardy sardars would lounge around on charpoys eating a heartily meal!
I was there on a weekend, and as a result, had to wait for nearly 30 minutes before we were ushered to a seat. Right in the middle of the restaurant there is a make believe well into which everyone peeps without fail, as if to find water! then there is a post with distances pointing to various towns in Punjab.
The walls are plastered with old movie posters of Dharam paaji, Amithab etc. There are also posters of Neem Hakims peddling some desi viagra and the bar is labelled Desi Sharab ka Dukaan. The best thing is the Menu. Its designed to look and feel like a tabloid newspaper! the menu items are grouped into various punjabi sounding names and these are interlaced with humerous tongue-in-cheek news items that make an entertaining read. The menu itself is a collectors item and can be taken back home as a soveneir. coming to food....its one of the best I have tasted, of course at a price! its difficult to point out any particular item as a fave.
I have been there many times and always had something different each time and all were fingerlickin good! this place is unmissable as they say in hinglish! next time u r in or around banjara hills in hyderabad, make sure u pay this place a visit.
