~~~No Angel Can Save this film~~~
As a coincidence, I went to watch Angel John soon after watching Amitab Bachchan’s Alaadin.     AB’s Aladin was short of imagination where the protagonist failed even to ask 3 wishes properly.   I was further stumped by Mohan Lal’s Angel John and the wishes as well, where the film was a huge disappointment.
Even before the Hero arrived (just before the interval), the film lost all its charm and people were making fun of each other and the characters for the silliness with which the film was made.   Frankly speaking, Mohan Lal had to give away the fight even before making the first appearance in the movie.
Maradona (Santhanu Bhagyaraj) is a lonely youth who don’t find much pleasure in studies instead he is more interested in Mallu Aunties.    He doesn’t spare a chance to flirt with Aunties and at home too he resort to watch porn in closed rooms.    When he started a business he finds no better option than an internet café which offers porn materials copied in abundance.   Out of teeny curiosity he peep into the chat room of a villain couples and that was the end of his internet dream.   He was trapped to make quick money by selling drugs and he had a narrow escape from police.   He is now rejected at home too and decides to commit suicide by jumping from a ship.    An angel, John (Mohan Lal) appears to get him out of these troubles. Here too Maradona is too teeny in nature and put his life in trouble again.
After the silliest start the film did pick up in the second half with some good situations but it was too late to begin a movie with.   In all account, the movie should have started from interval and people would have enjoyed it better. SL Puram Jayasurya failed to create any impression in this film.   Cinematography is ok and music is good.   Editing could have been better.   The plot was ok as a fantasy but it all turned a mockery with loose screen play.
The only good part of the first half was Jagathy who tried to tickle the audience’s rib in frequent intervals.    Here, the parallel track was given too much importance and the movie was not heading anywhere but round in the fixed circle.
There is a prayer for getting a good story in the film and it also says it has to be written by good script writers.   In fact that was the sole problem of the movie.   The script should have been much tighter and more focused.
The movie tried to make one tagline ‘Oru Rasam’ like ‘Mone Dinesha’ but failed to create the brand and ends up as a tag line to describe the style of this film making – ‘Oru Rasam’.
Mohanl Lal is just ok in the movie.   Santhanu as a youngster was ok but the character let down the youngster heavily. Selection of Nithya is perfect for the role. Jagathy is very good. Salim Kumar is ok.
The twist in the climax by bringing the villain was not convincing as drug smuggling and beggaring are two different leagues.
Overall, the film disappoints.
