Introduction
Anger is one of the evils that seems to consume me every now and then. So when I saw a movie called Anger Management, I was attracted to it. Of course, the fact that I generally like Adam Sandler movies made it an even more obvious choice.
The Plot
Dave Buznik (Adam Sandler) is a living a life full of
suppressed feelings. He feels very uncomfortable confronting anyone, so
everyone seems to be taking advantage of him. For starters his boss at
office, Frank, is literally taking Dave for a ride.
But, then Daves life is about to change as he is going to meet Dr. Buddy Rydell (Jack Nicholson).
Dave meets Dr. Buddy in a flight and his life turns topsy turvy ever
since. Fed up of Dr. Buddys loud noises, Dave asks the air hostess for
a headphone. To his surprise, she ignores him and when he protests she
accuses him of shouting at her and before he knows he lands up in a
lawsuit where the hostess accuses him of manhandling her.
Dave is sentenced to an anger management course with non other than
Dr. Buddy Rydell. What happens next is a laugh riot that shakes Daves
life out of recognition. Check out this movie for all the details.
Critics Viewpoint
I usually like Adam Sandler movies because most of his movies are comedies and they have good slick humour in them. Anger Management is another movie in the Adam Sandler mode of comedies.
What was good to see was the chemisty of Adam and Jack Nicholson.
Jack is such a series actor that you dont really envisage him in a
comedy, but here in this movie his timing along with Adam was just
great. Both of them keep you laughing throughout the movie with their
antics. Jack is both annoying and delightful in the role of the Anger
Management Guru who has a big temper himself.
Of course, the movie does not really offer any real solution to
Anger management apart from the fact that it asks people to express
their feelings and let it out rather than suppressing it. The key to
the success of the movie is the various situations which have been
explored in the movie starting from Adams personal life, professional
life and his probationary life with Jack. In true Adam Sandler mode,
some of the scenes have been obscenely overdone like the monk fight
scene which I thought was bit overdone.
Peter Segal and Adam Sandler seem to be going hand in hand these
days with the duo present in most of Adams movies off late. When you
go hand in hand for some time, you start understanding each others
strengths and weaknesses, so Peter is able to get the best of Adams
comic abilities on the screen.
The rest of the crew and cast have also done a decent job.
The flip side of the movie though is the fact, that the movie could
have been so much better. I felt most of the scenes were nipped in the
bud and the movie became more focused only on Jack and Adam rather than
the plot. Also given the strong language used in the movie, kids should
be shown the movie at parents discretion.
The Summary
All in all a nice movie to laugh and watch with your family barring the kids (Some obscene language and scenes) in there.
I would give this movie an average three starrer rating.
