The fact that india is playing well has made us forget about one of the best bowlers to have ever played for india .
It is a fact that this man is the most underrated cricketer in india .
This is substantiated by the fact that guys like srinath , prasad , kaif yuvi are considered heroes of indian cricket.
I dont think these guys come any where close to kumble in terms of ---the stats , his commitment and sheer attitude.
He was written off by many as they believed that he cannot perform well on foreign soil.
but the most important thing that needs to be considered here is the runs that indians manage to score when they tour abroad.
The scores have been close to 200 250 on most ocasions(i am talking of tests).
We are talking of first day and second day tracks in foreign countries when the pitch is a friend of fast bowlers and of course the batsmen.And the greatest indian fast bowlers of alltime just manage to take one or no wicket in there spells .
what kumble is left with is 50 runs to defend .
and, he cannot go in for attacking fields.
comparing kumble and shane would be unfair.
shane is a great bowler no doubt-the best spinner of all time.
but spare a thought for anil.
did u ever see a catch being dropped of the bowling of shane.???????The australians latch on to everything.on the other hand we have indian fielders who are worst fielders at best.
And one very important aspect of kumble’s bowling in ODI’s is the number of overs he bowls with the field restrictions in place and in the slog overs.
comapre this with the number of overs shane and murali bowl in the same conditions.
they rarely bowl with field restrictions in place and ofcourse they never bowl in the slog overs.
And last but the most important aspect of kumble’s game is his commitment.
remember the test in west indies where he came to bowl with a bandage around his head.
even when he bats he plays so sensibly.
he is a fighter to the core.
It’s time we realise the greatness of this great warrior.
