Nothing quite like it

Animal Planet is a member of the Discovery family of networks. It is also the best member, in my opinion, in terms of the quality of its programming and the information in those programs.

My personal favorite AP program is Emergency Vets. The program is about a veterinary group practice in Denver, Colorado (United States of America) called Alameda East, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to provide its clients and any animal which walks within its doors with emergency and routine veterinary care. Because it is open on a 24/7 basis, it sees a larger-than-average number of accident victims, and it even has a contract to care for animals from the nearby Denver Zoo if they need certain types of care. (Put another way, if the Denver Zoo’s veterinary staff can’t handle a problem on site, the animal in need of care is sedated and sent to Alameda East for care.)

Because many of MouthShut’s registered contributors live in India, those of you who live there might find the Emergency Vets’ emphasis on euthanizing animals who are suffering needlessly somewhat offensive; I understand that it is not common practice to euthanize severely-suffering animals over there as it is here in the United States. Otherwise, Emergency Vets and other Animal Planet programming might provide a necessary learning experience for animal lovers worldwide.
