Rave paradise

Anjuna Beach is a world famous Goan beach for its trance parties and rave parties. The beach is located in North Goa and can be reached by bus from Mapusa Bus Stand. The bus ride shall cost you Rs 6 from Mapusa Bus Stand to Anjuna Beach.

Once you get down at Anjuna Bus Stand, you have to walk down a narrow lane. You shall pass through the Anjuna Village with small cottage type houses. As you start nearing the beach you shall find shack type shops on either side of the small road selling clothes, handicrafts and trance music CDs. From Anjuna Bus Stand the walk to the beach is 5 to 7 minutes.

The road is not very good and hence take care that your feet are not sprained. Also the road is very narrow and still vehicles drive through the road hence be cautious about vehicles that might approach from the behind. Another thing to be cautious about is the stray cattle which roam freely on the narrow road. Twice I had a scare that the approaching cow might ram into me.

The beach is an irregular crescent of silver sands and it is rocky at the North end. There are shore bars and a few beach shacks. Compared to Calangute this beach is very tranquil. As you look away from the sea, you shall see hundreds of palm trees swaying in the breeze. This is a place where you can spend time with yourself undisturbed.

That the place is a party spot becomes evident when you see a stage constructed on the beach. There are scribblings by the party goers on the side of the stage. In my opinion, the place may not be suitable to enjoy if you go with your family. Its a beach for party lovers and you shall enjoy Anjuna Beach more if you go with your friends. I met a French tourist who advised me to give Anjuna a miss because its mainly for those who want to enjoy the chillum ( pipe ).

Accommodation facilities are available in Anjuna village for all budgets. However in my opinion you ought to stay in a place like Calangute or Panaji as facilities available there are much better. This beach is considered to be a backpackers paradise. Transport facilities are reasonable.

I recommend you to visit Anjuna beach for its tranquility and to have a view of the hundreds of palm trees swaying in the background of the beach.

Note: During my recent trip to Goa I found that due to increase in fuel prices, bus fares in Goa have increased.A trip from Calangute to Panaji now costs Rs 9 instead of Rs 7. Hence please take notice of this upward revision of fares.
