Ankahi-The Un Told

Shoaib Mansoor`s masterpiece - Ankahi

Ankahi.. the never told, truly is an untold story with a splendid touch of humor and a great presentation.

Haseena Moin writes well whenever she does and especially when you have got a director as good as Shoiab you don’t worry much about how well your message would get through to the viewers. I take the opportunity to be the first Pakistani to write a review on this all time great Pakistani drama serial.

Starring: Shehnaz Sheikh, Shakeel, Javed Sheikh, Saleem Nasir, Badar        Khalil, Behroz Sabzwari, Jamshed Ansari, Misbah Khalid, Arshad Mehmood, Qazi Wajid, Raju Jamil, Khalid Nizami

Written by: Haseena Moin

Directed by: Shoaib Mansoor

The story revolves around an innocent and ambitious young girl Sana Murad      . (Shehnaz Sheikh) who have always dreamt about getting rich and prosperous, the reason being the fact is a tragedy that stuck her in form of her father’s early death and later they find out that her only brother has a ’’hole’’ in his heart for which they needed an operation they cannot afford.Sana starts to search for a job and fortunately finds one but she was guilty of making too many blunders which her boss Taimur (Shakeel) was sick of. Never the less he persisted with Sana and her funny blunders. This gives a very cute touch of humor to the story which feels very foreign at this point of time with the vulgar and pathetic humor on screen nowadays.

The story takes an important turn when Sana at her friend Sara (Misbah Khalid)’s wedding meets Faraz (Javed Sheikh) who instantly falls for her and starts to follow her around and end up getting a job at her office.Meanwhile her aunt (Badar Khalil) arrives from the States with her son Moby (Behroz Sabzwari) for a visit.   Since Sana`s mamu (Late Saleem Nasir) had written to her aunt that they have become rich and famous, they start to pretend being rich even   to the extent of convincing their neighbor    Timmy (Jamshed Ansari) to act as their butler. And the sweet humour continues until the story reach its serious phase when Sana finds herself attracted to her boss Taimur and starts to feel for him until one day when she visited his home and was shocked to find out that Taimur was already married with a woman who is in a ’coma’ for the past three years. Thus seeing curtains for her and Taimur living together Sana gets heartbroken. In the meanwhile Faraz continued his struggle for Sana and succeeds in getting in good terms with Sana`s family. The love traingle stays put and the three sides face enormous tension.

The story reaches its climax when Taimur`s wife dies in the coma and makes the field clear for Taimur and Sana but by that time Sana`s mamoo (uncle) gets out of the non serious personality which he attained throughout the play and take control of things. The Late Saleem Nasir performed the memorable role of mamu which was par excellence. What happened next... Sana went for Taimur or had to cope with Faraz..Did Faraz get what he dreamt ..? what happened of Jibran...did he live?...........   That’s for You to find out!

Top class direction of a very well written play has made it one of the all time classics. The key behind the success of this play is the fact that the story of this family is the true story of many families of the sub-continent. The happenings and the mishappenings. Many viewers would feel as if they are in the shoes of the characters who have shown great skills to compliment the writer and the director.

A play definitely NOT worth missing!
