Annaaaaaaaaamalai ….

Chitti just finished its light years of run on @$%&# Sun TV . No no please do not misunderstand me , I love the Channel but the hate the way it attracts the Tamilians to watch it … A tired day I come trudging my huge frame back in the late hours of the evening dreaming about warm showers, dry clothes , hot and tasty dinner and of course watching either a lovely Hollywood Movie or skip the channels to watch a music video of my choice and I hear that dreaded sound … Annnnnnnaaaaaaaamalaiiiii … oops I glance at my watch …its 9.30 again .

I hear friends complaining to me , I reach home and my parents , wife don’t allow me to watch any programs as all I have to see is Kkkkkk … you know what and its not Shahrukh. I give them that Billion watt smile and say … you lucky guys …they have only hindi channels to choose …poor me has to contend with Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam channels , I am a tam bram you see, we speak Tamil and Malayalam at home and of course our National Language and the language I am writing it but alas … the serials in this wonderful language I write in are not accepted much by the womenfolk at home.

Annamalai is another serial by Radaan , which is a production house run by Radhika Sarathkumar. Most of the serials run by this production house have the lead role played by …guess who … Oh yes there you are ..you win a fabulous opportunity to write another review in Mouthshut.com its …. Radhika Sarathkumar herself. She is a successful actress in Tamil movies and I must say she acts very well. The earlier serial which was “Chitti ” saw deserted streets in Chennai when the serial was aired.

Annamalai was waited with bated breath by all the Chitti fans and that includes my mom .. When the night dawned of the first episode I made a foolish attempt to change the channel which was met with a gentle request from my mom with raised eyebrows and a snarl to go with it.

The story is as strong as Pringles potato Chips .. well its about this feudal family consisting of the father, his two sons and a pretty (???) daughter who is the apple of everyone’s eye. The Goddess whose temple is present in the town and this girl share a common name .. Annamalai . Wow !!! what a coincidence.

This family is in a dispute regarding the temple with another family. The Girl falls in love with guess whom … Mr Ulaganathan the son of the head of the other family .. a lady. Well they marry and are met with frowns with everyone. The problems now commence …. The elder brother of Annamalai is very much attached to her and promises to give the temple’s property documents to the warring family head.

Well that’s the crux and I don’t know how much I can keep writing about this serial. I must say regards the performances , Radhika is first rate and so is Shivakumar and the guy who plays Anwar … I don’t know his name. The thing that intrigues me is the sudden change of the actors played by Ulaganathan and Annamalai. I was surprised Radhika was not figuring in the serial and presto the episode in which the couple got married saw a swap where Radhika played Annamalai.

So what is the verdict you ask … I say Not recommended because though the performances are good its fails to attract you and keep you glued to the screen.

The story keep getting stretched like Fusen Chewing Gum and people keep watching. Its not as Good as Chitti which I must confess drew me also to watch it as it was interesting …
