Kidnapping caper gone baaad...

Apharan manages to hold your interest for the entire first half and most of the second. It has a unique story line and the treatment too is different. Almost the entire cast of Gangajal is repeated, with everyone pitching in with decent performances.Post-interval, just as u settle down in your seat hoping for an equally good second half, you are in for a dissapointment. The pace suddenly slackens. Out of the blue, there is an item number thrown in. The only explanation of it being in the movie can be the Editor going for a quick sandwich during the editing !!Prakash Jha manages to capture the rustic Bihari atmosphere with success. Ajay Devgan delivers a honest performance, but at times you do get the impression that he is trying just a little bit too hard. Nana Patekar is good, but we have seen him do mush better.Dont go for a leak or a smoke during the movie, else you might miss Bipasha Basus role. All in all, this kidnapping caper; with an ending heavily borrowed from Company; is just about, repeat, just about worth its ransom amount, viz. the ticket price.
