For several reasons, I can draw parallels between Apne, Jo Jita Wahi Sikander and a nearby family Restaurant.
Guys, let’s have the first perspective in place:
*Jo jita wahi Sikandar Re-Boxed:
*If the fashion keeps on repeating itself in a span of 2 decades, so
the movie themes in bollywood. If short kurtis were a rage some 20
years back, they are now seen selling at Big Bazaar and Westside like
hotcakes.
Apne, a Anil Sharma directed movie works on the same pattern of "repeat" after few decades.
If Jo Jita focussed on inter-college cycling race, Apne takes place in a swanky global boxing league.
Transformation from a small hill station to an intercontinental league
just shows the way our country has changed, our movies have changed.
The contexts remain almost same as its a fight for lost pride, fight of
a brother for his brother, achievement of father’s dream who is also a
coach for the sporting brothers.
Dharmendra is a former boxing champion staying of course in our movie’s
favorite land, Punjab. Few decades back he was slapped with doping
charges and was disqualified from World Boxing champion title.
One dream remains unfulfiled to re-gain one’s pride, to regain country’s pride.
He looks upon his elder son(Sunny Deol) to take up the mantle and
fulfill his dreams. Sunny however leaves it mid-way as boxing doesn’t
fetch money to drive a Honda CRV.i mean to feed the family.
The dream still remains unfulfilled and that bothers him.
Bobby Deol, the younger son also the nasal rockstar who is disabled by
left had gets cured miraculosly and enters the boxing league.
The fight begins! Fight with destiny, fight with fellow boxing
champions. Bobby wins all the matches and goes to fight Luca Garcia!
Luca Garcia is Deepak Tijori of Jo Jita who wants to win at any cost.
Similarly, he cheats in the final match and wins! Bobby is in
hospital.
What to do for the un-fulfilled dream.Dont u worry!
Here comes the otherwise shy sunny deol to fight luca garcia!
and in the end Amir khan wins the cycling match! Bravo!
*Let’s see the movie from the perspective of going to a family restaurant:
*Newly opened Ganga Sagar in my side of the town is a multi-cuisine
restaurant serving punjabi, south indian and chinese cuisines at one
go. Kids can munch on small bites of sandwiches and milkshakes. College
going guys can hog chinese food so the uncle n aunties can feast on
punjabi food. In the end, everyone devours the ice-cream, pays the bill
and leaves happily.
Apne is exactly like a visit to family restaurant.
Dharmendra! Thankfully back to end the monotony of bachchan is
remarkably charming and good looking at the age of 72. He has single
handedly carried the movie on his shoulders bringing back pleasant
memories of Dharmendra where people cherished him not only for his
muscles but also for his phenomenal acting e.g Chupke Chupke, Sholay
and Satyakam. He is like the good old chole bhatura and dal tadka,
ageless wonders.
Sunny Deol and Bobby have played their roles as the director
wanted.Period! Somehow few Sunny Deol loyalist would be dis-appointed
to see Sunny getting badly bruised in the end. We are not habituated to
see him that way i.e. getting beaten mercilessly by the baddy. They are
like chinese cuisine of Ganga Sagar. I can see my generation somewehere
there.
Shilpa Shetty, "Big Brother’s wife and Katrina Kaif are like raitas and
masala papads. One doesn’t require them but they add up to the taste.
Beautiful shots of punjab and breathtaking picturisation of boxing are like the ice-cream!
Dude.where the bill? Himesh’s music is serious interruption and an ear-sore.
Chef Mr. Anil Sharma, you have cooked up the cuisine just too well!

Now imagine this movie being made by noted directors of this age:
*Prakash Jha: The movie shall be shot at the backdrop of Kushti
akhadas in Bihar. Dharmendra could not fight the kushti because he was
kidnapped at the time of the match. Now he grows up as a old man and
trains his sons to take on the best wrestler, Ajay Devgan who is also a
corrupt politician.
Aurag Basu: Locations are Far east asian countries. Imraan Hashmi is
adopted by Dharam paaji. Now Imraan’s concentration from boxing is
diverted since the director tries to put in some good music and some
smoochings. In the end, imraan somehow wins.
Yashraj and KJo: It will have AB as Dharmendra doing "God knows",
thrown out of "god knows", Jr. AB and SRK bring the glory back by
singing songs in manhattan!
