Average film

Saw Apne a few days back.

*Story

*I think everyone knows what the film is about. Its a story about a father who has two sons. Father was a boxer before, but because of doping charges, he was kicked out. He wanted the older son to fulfil his dreams but the older son didn’t think it was right to become a boxer. The younger son, couldn’t quite fulfil the father’s dream because of his injured hand from his childhood- an accident occurred. The story goes on and on.

*Thoughts

*Initially, I thought this movie was going to be something like Veer Zaara, however it really wasn’t like that after I saw the movie. The movie dragged like crazy. For a subject like this, it could have easily ended in two hours, but I thought the movie was way too long and the length had a negative impact on the movie because as a viewer I felt exhausted after watching this. Two hours and 55 minutes is so long for a subject like this. Also there was too much boxing in this movie. I felt like I was watching a boxing game.

*Performances

Dharmendra-** was good as the stubborn and determined father, but boy did he look old. I get the feeling the man drinks too much.  Anyways, it was nice seeing him back onscreen after a long time in a long role.

Sunny Deol- His performance was quite good, and this role was also different than those lame action movies and roles he was relegated to as of late. Here, he’s family man, and I felt that he was the most impressive one in this movie.

Bobby Deol- is decent, but he doesn’t get as good of a role like the other two. His role wasn’t as meaty, and he’s relegated to the back seat a lot of the time.

Kiron Kher- She was quite good as the mother. She suits these roles really well.

Shilpa Shetty- not much of a role she had, but she was good.

Katrina Kaif- she suited the role, but you can tell her voice was dubbed.

Victor Banerjee- as Dharmendra’s friend, he’s good.

Music by Himesh is alright. Nothing fantastic.

Anil Sharma as a director is average here. Not an amazing effort or anything.

Overall I’ll give the film a 5.5/10. Its an average movie, filled with some decent moments. I had high expectations from this, but I wasn’t entirely impressed with the movie.
