We live outside India. In December 2009, during a routing checkup, my doctor suspected that my Fallopian tubes may be blocked. She suggested to go for HSG to confirm this or even better to get Laproscopy done to treat any abnormalities if required.
My husband and I were very concerned and did not want to take any chances and wanted to consult few moredoctors. I visited India and went on to see few doctors to seek their advice. Dr Prakash Kini was one of them.
This chap is more of a marketing expert and a money minded businessman than a doctor. On our first visit, he was very patient in discussing with us my problem. He was very compassionate and expressed his sensitivity to my problems. He insisted that I should not see any other doctor and assured that he was quite experienced and unmatched in laproscopic treatment.
We fell prey to all the sweet talks and caring attitude of Dr Kini. We decided to go with him even though his fee was more than double that of other doctors (Manipal etc). An illustration - Cradle expense for laproscopy : Rs 65, 000. Other Hospitals Rs 25, 000.
But sometime thing that is expensive isnt necessarily best. We learnt it from cradle.
Before the laproscopy , we felt that we had made the right decision and we were under the care of a very seasoned doctor. However his attitude changed entirely after the operation. All of a sudden he seemed uninterested in my case. All our questions were met with stern and unfriendly responses. We soon doubted our decision to go with Kini. His attitude was purely that of a mean businessman.
Only interested untill you pay the fee.
The biggest surprise came when he concluded that I may be suffering with tuberculosis in my reproductive system. This was despite biopsy, chest xray and bloodd reports that showed negative result for TB. I had no other symptoms of TB as well.
He referred us to another doctor. A TB specialist in another hospital. On the contrary we found this doctor quite qualified.
In his opinion I was not suffering from TB, But since Prakash Kini suspected TB, he did not want to rule it out. So I was forced to 6 months of rigorous TB medication regime. I came back to my country of residence and took all the pain to complete the medication course especially when the medicines were so strong and left side affects such as rashes and upset stomach.
All said and done, recently I suffered severe pain in my lower abdomen and was bleeding continously for almost 10 days. I saw a doctor and after some blood tests and ultrasound, doctor suspected threatened abortion.
I thought of calling Dr Kini and so gave him a call. He remembered me. When I explained about my condition and asked for advise, he became very annoyed and rudely asked me not to call him and see a doctor. This is exactly what he said "Why are you calling me, better ask the doctor in your
country".
I felt so insulted and disappointed. We are now deeply repenting our decision of going all the way to India and paying a premium to seek treatment from Dr Kini.
Special note : Cradle Hospital would never tell you Dr Kinis fees. They will provide bill for only hospital charges. Dr Kinis fees is only accepted in cash (black money to evade tax). Cradles aim is to attract NRI customers by providing posh hospital facilities.
