I need to share this with the readers.
My father(61) was diagnosed with throat cancer(tonsilities) in July 2013 and got treatment from the Oncology team at Apollo hospital in Bannerghatta, Bangalore.I am extremely upset and angry that we treated him at Apollo because he died there on Dec 19th 2013 due to a sudden cardiac arrest. The oncology team there is more concerned about the money that they are getting with expensive treatments such as Radiation and Chemotherapy and were extremely negligent and careless about the fact that a 60+ man with a heart condition could not handle the aggressiveness of the treatment.
They gave him high doses of chemo and then gave him 18 sessions of radio therapy which wasnt even necessary and being laymen we could not detect this and trusted the doctors completely thinking they are right and have a good reputation. The team consisted of Dr Uday Kumar who is the head; Dr Vivek Radhakrishnan; Dr Vinay and Dr Vaishnavi who treated my father till he breathed is last. It was more like they helped him die and didnt give us complete information as to what was wrong with him when we admitted him in the ICU on 13th December, where he died after 6 days of being kept in a terribly shabby isolation ward in the ICU section.
We were told he would improve in 48 hours and that his platelet and WBC count was really low which is why his also was diagnosed with Sepsis or septecemia which is like an infection in the blood stream.
My father due to radiation had also become malnourished and lost about 9 kgs in 2 weeks and was unable to eat or drink for more than 14 days due to the treatment. The doctors ideally should have give him a break at this point and stopped the treatment but no one intervened and they just passed it off as a side effect. The bills kept increasing and by father’s condition kept deteriorating until the day his heart gave up. Even when they were performing CPR on him in front of my eyes, some junior intern or nurse was trying to revive him while the doctors were standing there watching as if it is a show or circus. It was the most horrible feeling ever.
I hope nobody gets treated here for cancer or for any other diseases.
I have lost faith in humanity and in doctors in general. What would they do for money? Are they now just glorified murderers who play God? I hope these doctors get severely punished in some way and learn their lesson because they have killed innocent lives as I’m sure there are many more like my dad who have died in their hands.
Avoid Apollo completely! We will regret taking him there when it was an emergency and this guilt and regret will last forever but I hope this review would help another family make the right decision about his/her loved one.
