I have been really active in sports. Going to gym and lifting those iron weights and becoming a “Gargantua” never appealed to me, so to stay fit I resorted to playing basket ball on regular bases. But at times it use to happen that, due to my exams or due to some reasons I wasn’t able to keep myself regular in any kind of physical activity.
Suddenly I started having these low back pains that use to come and go, a slight stiffness too was at times noticeable by me. Also sometimes a peculiar pain between the pelvis and spine use to wake me up at night. I didn’t pay much heed to it, till one day when I felt some sort of mobility in the lower spine. My family took me to a nearby Apollo Hospital and after a thorough examination I came to know that I was suffering from Ankylosing Spondolytis. I was told that it wasn’t that severe as it was detected at a very early stage; because some people don’t even know about this disease and in some cases it can result into pulmonary fibrosis or restrictive lung disease. I was prescribed a course of non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to reduce inflammation and pain. I was told that the course of the disease is unpredictable and the symptoms may come and go at any time, but was assured that the symptoms won’t aggravate or get worse further. I was glad that I was diagnosed at a very early stage. I would request to people who suffer from similar symptoms and ignore them, they must get a checkup done immediately.
