We want to share our ongoing experience with ApolloMunich Health Insurance and the most horrible way it treats its customers.Given below is my brief case history and how I was wrongfully denied my legitimate claim by ApolloMunich Health Insurance:
We hold an ApolloMunich Optima Restore Insurance Policy. Our sum assured is Rs.5, 00, 000/-(Five Lacs Only), along with the bonus it now stands at Rs.7, 70, 000/-(Seven Lac Seventy Thousand Only). Our Policy Number is 150300/11122/6000072997.
We are currently in the fourth year of our policy. We had transferred our policy from New India nhassurance to ApolloMunich by going through some of the reviews on the internet and had mistakenly believed them to be genuine. We are aishwaryasingh23ing the price of that mistake.
On May 23, 2014 I had very high fever and went to see the doctor the next day(May 24, 2014). The doctor was unable to ascertain the reason and advised me to get admitted to a hospital immediately. I did exactly as advised and got admitted to Columbia Asia Hospital, Kolkata on May 24, 2014. For the next 5 days, that is till May 29, 2014, I repeatedly had extremely high fever with shivering at least 3-4 times a day with temperature touching 102-103 degree Fahrenheit. I was given general antibiotics like Cifran, Tazact etc. but nothing worked.
I was in critical condition during this period and multiple tests were done to diagnose the cause for the high fever. These included tests for Malaria, Dengue, Urinary Tract Infection, Typhoid, TB and so on.
On May 29, for the first time redness in my tonsils appeared and along with that a swelling of the gland was also noticed. For which, an FNAC was done.
My medication was changed and new antibiotics(like Meropenem etc.) were prescribed for the following five days. This finally started showing results and the fever slowly subsided.
I was diagnosed to be having Acute Exudative Tonsilitis. My medication continued for the next five days and I was finally ready for discharge from hospital on June 3, 2014.
On June 2, 2014 in the evening we suddenly got an SMS from ApolloMunich Health Insurance that our cashless treatment request has been denied. This was done when the discharge summary was not even prepared. They made an arbitrary decision without even waiting for the final discharge summary.
As soon as I was admitted to hospital, all necessary documents were provided to ApolloMunich Health Insurance for cashless treatment. During the course of my stay in hospital, whenever ApolloMunich asked us for any document we provided them with all of them immediately. The hospital too sent all the required documents related to my treatment to ApolloMunich Health Insurance.
Despite all necessary, relevant and legitimate documents proving my ailment, diagnosis and treatment, Apollo Munich Health Insurance strangely denied me cashless treatment request.
The absurd reason that they gave us was - "Cashless denied as admission primarily for Investigation & Evaluation".
This is the most ridiculous reason that one can give. My rightful demand for cashless treatment was denied by just providing an unimaginably weird reason. They were provided with all documents related to my 11 day stay in hospital and the course of treatment that I had to go through and yet they think I went to hospital to only undergo Investigation & Evaluation.
Not only that, we called up the 24/7 toll free call centre of Apollo Munich Health Insurance repeatedly and all they could tell us was the same thing. They are the most unhelpful and unprofessional customer care service that one can imagine. Most of them cant speak properly let alone help or guide you in any way. If you write a mail to their customer service(customerservice@apollomunichinsurance.com), you better forget about it, because they don’t care to reply back. You will not even receive an acknowledgement from them. It is simply unbelievable. Pathetic, to say the least!
Due to the immense harassment that Apollo Munich Health Insurance gave us, we had to arrange for the hospital bill of Rs.1, 51, 144/- in that short period.It seems that the only thing Apollo Munich Health Insurance is interested from its customers is the premium money. Once they get it, they dont care about any service that they should provide. As a customer we aishwaryasingh23 our premiums in time and co-operate with them and what you get in return is harassment and insult.
We have now again submitted all the originals for reimbursement on June 9, 2014. On June 20, 2014 they again asked for a few more documents which we had already submitted. We submitted those documents also on June 25, 2014 at their branch office in Sector V, Salt Lake. It has been more than a month since then but I am yet to know about how long will it take for me to even know the status of my claim.
Their only intention is to reject your claim and to deny the legitimate claim by harassing the customer as much as possible. I will keep on posting about Apollo Munich Health Insurance and how it treats its customers by sharing my personal experience.
