I bought this ipad 2 3G+Wifi in Feb 2012. Started using it by March, and by April I migrated my work(Docs, e-mail mainly) while on Travel.
It died in May(3 months and the product is dead? who would have expected this from apple?) . I took it to service centre in bangalore, (4geniusminds). they checked it in, and said I will get a replacement within 4 days. It took 8 days, and they called me to say the got the replacement unit. I went to collect it, and immediately tried to configure it. I then realized thatthe touch screen of this new piece was almost insensitive and the display was flickering big time, and it zooms in by itself, zooms out by itself etc.
I was disappointed by it already. The service provider guys said they will get me another piece(Which means another week). It wasnt okey for me, as I was due to travel again. I tried calling apple tech support, and the service advisor connected me to his senior advisor. They tried to source for an alternate piece in bangalore, but couldnt get one. I was shocked to see the way they were scouting it(Just calling up all apple service providers, by picking up their numbers from the website, and calling them.instead, I expected they will have some inventory table where they can refer / verify)
And then the senior adviser suggested me to wait till the next piece arrives. The reasoning was thatthese are electronics pieces, they can fail(Ofcourse, but not in 3 months, and not twice, in my own single case).
I explained that it means literally being away without it during my next travel. they were in a hurry to shut shop and leave(Thats how it seemed to me). I wanted them to escalate it to the next level so that atleast Ill get an assurance that the next piece will not be a dead-on-arrival piece. They suggested me to give a feedback on apples portal instead.(I later tried it, and couldnt find any feedback section related to customer support).
Ipad is a cute product, but my recent experience with apple support has been disappointing and I think they have a lot of money to waste now, that quality and first time efficiency didnt seem a high priority anymore.
I will not buy an apple product again till they invest and fix service scene in India. They are loosing out on quality while playing on the volume segment
