RAM is important for performance. With 2 GB, like on the iPad mini 4, you won’t have the annoying "page reloading syndrome" of iOS running on 1 GB of RAM. It scores 65’000 points in antutu so it is still pretty fast. I have a mini 3(which is basically a iPad mini 2 with fingerprint sensor, little design changes and gold color option) and it was very fast when I used it on iOS 9.3.2.
