From the past ten to fifteen years students from india and all over THE WORLD have been trying to go to the states for higher education.

generally students make a move to the states to achieve the prestigious masters degree and not the bachelors because of the fact that EDUCATION MAY PROVE TO BE QUITE EXPENSIVE.
for appearing for the admission to MS the applicant should have
a) a good academic record(particularly the engg. part).
b) some work experience will be given weightage though it must be noted that the work experience must belong to the subject to which he/she is applying.
c) the projects, research papers and other miscellaneous work done during the vacation may come in handy.
d) a very good gre score+ the percentile for that batch of students should be generally above 90% for securing a seat in a very good univ.( FOR IVY LEAGUE).
e) toefl scores should be atleast above 275/300(preferably)

for gre , the barrons guide is a must. along with that WORD POWER MADE EASY by norman lewis and some other book (all about words) by morris rosenblum and ( forgot his name)i think nurnburg .
the kaplans guide(latest edition) along with cds and also the workbook make you invincible.
