The only advantage of the wannabe Chettinad place is that it is right there on Mount Road and cops dont really trouble you for parking. The place feels real old and run down. Air conditioning is run mostly on low cool and you enter the dining area, you get this pungent odour. Ive asked the waiters couple of times (I decided to go there a second time because I did not want to unnecessarily bring hell down on someone). But you cant have pesticides sprayed all the time. All the chairs and interiors stink stale of fungus and humidity.
Waiters never bother to attend to you. You need to screem on top of your voice to get what you ordered. Else youll be waiting at your plate for an hour or so. More than anything, their prawn biriyani will have mutton at times and for them, biriyani is just tomato rice. All this nonsense when you pay Rs 80 for a plate of biriyani which I think is a decent price for Chennai standards. The sad part is that you dont have any good biriyani place in that locality. If you really dont mind road side food, you may try the Thalappakattu Biriyani on Venkatnarayana Road (Edible biriyani for Rs.45 a plate).
