Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Vandalur, Chennai is said to be the first zoo in India, it is one of the oldest zoo, started in 1885.In Chennai, almost all the schools have taken their kids to visit this wonderful zoo. It is so vast that it is spread around more than 600 acres.
This zoo was shifted to the present Vandalur forest reserve area and opened to public in 1985.There is a walking road which is around 6km, always if we go by vehicle we dont get a good experience in sightseeing. Most animals are provided with decent enclosures/natural environment.
I enjoyed the white tigers, hippos jumping into water. But I did not much like the enclosures for snakes and its poor lighting. It is a bit difficult for our kids as we are not allowed to carry food inside and no refreshment places inside the zoo.It took almost 6 hours for us to complete the visit and see all the animals.Tuesdays are holidays. If you have kids or elders with you, then you can opt for a battery car.even if there is a long queue for this, it is worth waiting. It can take you around in approximately 90 minutes. Lion Safari is also worth trying. I always make it a point to visit this wonderful zoo with my family once in a year.
