Novel and Engaging....

Sometimes movies which doesn’t create much hype takes you by surprise. ’’Arindhum Ariyamalum’’ (AA) is one such flick which treads the path of less hype more substance movie. I saw this movie day before yesterday and was surprised by the way the movie shapes out right till the climax. ’’AA’’ is a decent fare and does keep you hooked to your seats. After a disastrous ’’Kurumbu’’, Director Vishnuvardhan has done his assignment well and comes out with something novel. Letz venture into the story right away.

The Story

Satya (Navdeep) is a 12th pass out and lives with his grandfather, uncle and aunt in Nagercoil. He gets admission in an Engineering college in chennai. But his grandfather doesn’t allow him to pursue studies in chennai instead advices him to join a college nearby. But his grandfather is somehow convinced and Satya finally ends up coming to chennai. He comes to live with ’’Five Star’’ krishna who is interested more into art and film-making rather than studies. On his first day of his college, Satya saves a person who is hit in an accident and comes face-to-face with Kutty (Arya) who kills the person whom Satya saved. Kutty is the adopted son of Adhi Narayanan (Prakashraj) and the father-son duo are gangsters and have control over the city. There is a cop Thiagarajan (Adhitya), who is bent on nabbing the duo given the right opportunity and evidences. Satya meets Sandhya (Shamishka) in college and falls in love with her because she resembles the girl whom he has seen in his village. One fine day, on their way back from shopping, Satya and Sandhya are caught in a fight between a gang and Kutty and accidentally, Kutty fires bullet at Sandhya’s leg. Satya admits her in the hospital and then gives a complaint in the police station to the cop Thiagarajan. The cop makes use of this opportunity and arrests Kutty. Now Adhi wants to confront the person who gave the complaint and wants to banish him. But on seeing Satya, Adhi changes his mind because he looks very young, and advices him not to indulge in these matters hereafter. But there is a twist in the plot, where Adhi comes to know that Satya is his son.....Now Adhi starts yearning to win Satya’s affection and Kutty also joins Adhi in this mission. Then follows a series of engaging and comical frames and, whether Satya accepts his father and brother or not forms the climax.

Performances

Navdeep as an innocent Satya does a good job. His looks fits the character of Satya perfectly. He does look blank sometimes but his overall performance is good. Shamishka as Sandhya is okay, and she doesn’t have a role and doesn’t impress at all. Arya as Kutty is outstanding as the arrogant, menacing local street thug and comes out with a excellent performance. Though Ullam Ketkume was his debut, this movie is the first to release and this doesn’t look like his debut at all. Prakashraj as Adhi is outstanding and impressive once again and both Arya and Prakashraj keeps the interest alive throughout the second half. Adhitya as the cop is okay and Krishna as Satya’s roommate, do succeed in bringing some laughs.

Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is peppy and the ’’Sil Sil’’ rain song is the pick of the lot. Though it reminded me of the ’’Chak dum dum’’ rain song from ’’Dil to Pagal Hai’’, this song was good too. Other songs are also peppy and adds life to the film except the Thee Pidikka song which slows down the narration. The Director has handled a lot of scenes with great dedication and has come up with a good script.

Overall, a nice entertainer and is definitely a good movie not to be missed.

I would give 7-7.5 out of 10 for this decent flick.
