Armaan - old cocktail in a new bottle, oop’s sorry.
If one remembers ‘Chaahat’( 1996, I guess) and the doctor-wala TV serial Lifeline, then Armaan is sort of like a well mixed drink, just plain and simple with no fizz...
Why did I watch this movie ?
Read about Honey Irani’s directorial venture with Amitabh Bachchan. Being extremely prejudiced toward Mr. Bachchan and a wee bit disappointed too at his sobered gray role, I would still say, watch this movie - it’s different.
The film revolves around:
How a doctor, Dr.Sinha(Mr.Amitabh Bachchan ) wishes to fulfill his dream of making the hospital he started - one of the best providers.Apart from this, he has sacrificed his self in order to be a father to an orphan, who grows up to be a neuro-surgeon, Dr.Akash(Anil Kapoor).
An anesthetist, Dr.Neha(Gracy Singh) with her expertise helps Dr.Akash in the operation theatre. Love ensues...
Entry the loud angle provided by the possesive-obssesive love of a billionaire’s daughter, Sonia(Preity Zinta) for Dr. Akash. Sonia’s Dad(Randhir Kapoor) plays barter with Dr. Akash in order to complete the ‘Armaan’ of Dr. Sinha.
As for me, Preity Zinta’s hairdo distracted me from her acting. Gracy Singh’s girl next door image goes well with her role. Anil Kapoor effortlessly portrayed Dr. Akash.
Mr.Amitabh is a great actor - that’s it.
As a director Ms.Honey Irani, added a unique touch to the film, and did not succumb to the mass-appeal criteria.
There was a hint at subtle comedy, when Amitabh Bachchan chances on the romancing couple -Anil Kapoor and Gracy Singh. Really liked it, wish they were more such scenes.
The music was good, light and sweet. The musical jugalbandi between Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor was another highlight of the movie. With specks, flecks, creases and highlights a watchable movie to say the least.
For sure , a clean movie.
