Unbreakable NO...Unwatchable YES

This is one of the main reasons that the film will go by unnoticed. The film depicts the life of a boxing champion who has to sacrifice his boxing career and the marital woes of a young couple with a child who don’t know how to handle marriage at such a young age. Boxing is a sport that not many people know or care to know about in India hence the concept of a film with boxing as part of its story loses its appeal. Also the film has frankly not been made with a lot of finesse, though it appears glossy from its outward appearance, it is very rough and edgy in terms of execution and editing.

Overall the film is a big disappointment.Aryan belongs to the action genre and the tag line states ‘Winning is not everything, it’s the only thing’. The film has been produced by Poonam Khubani and Vipin Anand and it has been directed by Abhishek Kapoor. The film stars Sohail Khan as Aryan, Sneha Ullal as Neha, Puneet Issar as Ranveer, Inder Kumar, Farida Jalal, Kapil Dev and Fardeen Khan in special appearances. The music of Aryan has been composed by Anand Raj Anand.Aryan is the boxing champion of his college and under the training of his coach Ranveer Singh he dreams of boxing at the national level.

Neha is the love of his life and has always been there for him, she is his inner strength and he needs her to always be there for him. However Aryan and Neha get carried away like any other young couple in love and then they decide to get married and settle down. Now that Aryan is a husband and will soon be a father, he decides to give up his much cherished dream of being a boxing champion. Instead he takes up a 9 to 5 job of a sports commentator to support his family.

Aryan and Neha have a son and life seems to be going fine for them for a while.Unfortunately though Aryan has given up his dream, he has never been able to completely let go of his dream. Also the pressure of handling a family at a young age begins to show and gradually the cracks in his life begin to slowly take a toll on his life. Aryan’s professional as well as his personal relationship with his wife begins to fall apart and he finally breaks down when Neha leaves him along with their son.

However Aryan is a fighter and will fight till the end, he meets his old coach one day and from him he draws inspiration and motivation to rise up once more. Aryan decides to pursue his dream once more; he wants to win the title of the national boxing championship and for this he has to go up against the best. However Aryan’s support system, Neha is not by his side. Will Aryan win the championship, will Neha come back to him, will he manage to get his life back together.Aryan has a fairly average storyline, but unfortunately its execution is its sore point, the film’s execution lacks finesse, it’s extremely rough and the editing is extremely poor.

The screenplay by director Abhishek Kapoor lacks direction and has not been thought out well. Instead several scenes are grouped together to make the film work and the lack of style and research is clearly evident. Unfortunately even though the actors try to infuse life into this dull plot, their effort is clearly wasted. Director Abhishek Kapoor has not handled the screenplay in a deft manner and the final picture which comes across to the audience looks like the work of an amateur. A few emotional scenes between the couple manage to get your attention but they move on quickly.

There is an effort to make the climax of the boxing match a high point, but that too holds your attention only for a while. The climax is of course predictable with no surprises or twists and turns. Anand Raj Anand’s music is average and the romantic song ‘Jaaneman’ stands out. Cinematography by Neelabh Kaul has glossy and colourful sets but nothing exceptional. Performances are average but lack conviction. Sohail Khan physically suits the character and his performance is average but somehow he does not infuse the quality of empathy with his character.

Sneha Ullal physically does not carry off the role of a young mother well and her performance too is not up to the mark. She still has a long way to go before getting it right. Aryan falls short on several counts, lack of hype, lack of big stars and a big banner. Moreover at metros the film is bound to be ignored even more and finally it’s not a film that one would want to see during the festive season.
