We went to meet Dr. Panda to get his opinion regarding multiple arterial blockages for one of our family members. The doctor’s opinion differed from two other top cardio thoracic surgeons and basically made it look like a severe case so that they can charge hefty amount.
The Bypass surgery packages are totally overpriced and they will take EVERY opportunity to make money out of you. There was no heart valve replacement required and no other complications with the patient. Patient is also non-diabetic. It was a straight forward case of treating blocked arteries.
ICU charges per day was quoted up to: Rs. 50000
General Ward charges per day was quoted up to: Rs. 25000.
None of the other top hospitals in the city charge that much per day. We were told that the case is complex and severe that would need patient to stay additional 7 days on top of 7 days of bypass surgery package. They said patient’s heart is very weak and for that itself we will charge 1.6 lakh rupees.
Overall, the estimated total for bypass surgery came to around 15 Lakh rupees which is insane and 3 surgeries could be performed at this price. Plus post surgery medication cost, exercise cost, doctor visits etc is not accounted for. On top of all this they said keep a buffer of 15-20% extra for any miscellaneous cost that can incur. I would not recommend this hospital because they simple DO NOT care about patients and only money matters to them. Dr. Panda and team are less of a doctors but more of a businessman treating patients in a 7 star hotel like hospital. Definitely not for COMMON MAN. If you are rich or can afford to get treated at a premium price then this would be your choice but certainly will overpay for the treatment and care you get.
