Santosh sivan’s Asoka takes you back to the historic period ! the movie isnt bad at all !
Begginning !
Emperor chandragupta becomes a monk hence his son Bindusara becomes the king ! Bindusara has two sons Susim ( ajit ) and asoka (shahrukh ) who are step brothers ! now the question is who becomes the next king ????
Susim tries his level best to kill asoka but all in vain ! Bindusara orders asoka’s mother to tell him to leave the magadha dynasty so that susim can take over ! asoka leaves (under pressure ) and goes into exile in kalinga
San sanana san sanana nan ! oops ! this the entry of our kalinga princess kaurwaki ( karriena kapoor ) who is also into an exile with her brother aryan after her parents got murdered ! Asoka falls in love at first sight
with the kshatriya rani who is protected all the time by bheem (rahul dev ) ! But ... asoka does not reveal his identity to the kshatriya rani ! so kaurwaki falls in love with pavan /asoka !
Asoka is called by his mother back to magadha hence pavan/asoka depart :( !
when asoka / pavan returns he meets bheem who tells him lies that kaurwaki and aryan are dead !
-------------------intermission ---------------------------
Asoka is struck by the death of kaurwaki and becomes a ferocious person ! He falls ill and is looked after by
Devi (hrishitta bhatt ) and he marries her because of circumstances ! On the other hand Kaurwaki sets out
to find her lost love asoka whom she knows as pavan !! she doesnt find him but gets her dynasty of kalinga back !
Devi is pregnant but is also very upset by asoka’s behaviour who has become a very cruel person as all he can think of is the throne ! Asoka’s mother gets killed ! This makes asoka revengeful and he kills Susim and his brothers but ... one brother manages to escape and takes refuge at kalinga ! Hence there is a huge battle between magadha and kalinga !
War ends ! Magadha wins ! kaurwaki who also fights for her dyansty of kalinga sees pavan and realises
that he is the real asoka and collapses on the battle field ! Asoka meets kaurwaki and when he sees aryan
dying in front of his eyes he realises that he is the main cause behind all the terror !
Ending ---------- Asoka embraces Buddhism !
Kaurwaki ( its on the audience to decide the ending for her )
Shahrukh has given an excellent performance and karriena is looking good with the cleopatra look ! as far her acting skills are concerned she is satisfactory but not an award winning performance !
Danny denzonpa and johny lever manage to add a little humor to the movie at intervals !
The music is pretty nice and with the locations they seem more good ! my favourite is raat ka nasha !
There is definitely going to be a mixed reaction by the audience but it is a one time see !
