I have read all the works of John Grisham and once I saw the latest book from him I couldnt resist myself from buying it.
"The Associate" is vintage John Grisham. Taut storyline, typical John Grisham narration and the various intricacies of the US law system...the book is a nice read though I wont I wont place it in the league of his best. So do not expect that the book will remain in your system for long...but good for timepass though!
To give a brief synopsis of the plot...a fresh law grad for an ivy league college is being blackmailed by professionals over a dark secret from his past and is asked to do unethical things in his new organization. The narrative is typical John Grisham style..factual but detached! But thats his writing style and I simply love it. Characters are believable and one enjoys the journey of fresh grads in a top law organization as they struggle through the initial days of toil.
The last half of the book is a page turner as things happen fast but the ending is a bit disappointing and without much action...could have been made more thrilling. Another point to mention here is that there is no courtroom drama in this book..no juries...just life in a law firm..so those who like the courtroom scenes may be disappointed.
People have compared the book to "the Firm" but in my opinion that one was better and more engrossing...maybe coz it was one of the first books I read by John Grisham and the novelty of reading about the US law scene was very interesting.. But overall "The Associate" a nice read and will keep you interested till the end.
Happy Reading..
