ASTITVA is the story of a husband who learns of his wife’s wrong doing’s and being an coward who cannot digest the fact, decides to punish her by giving her a divorce.
The movie tries to conveys a message that a woman in india is just nothing on her own, she always has to be dependent on her family, her husband and then her childrens who can just treat her the way they want her to.....she has no respect and freedom of her own. even if she makes a decision of doing something she likes, she will have to repent it later..
It is a fact that women have always been oppressed by the male. But why do women in India never have an existence… an identity of their own? And what happens when Mrs. Aditi Shrikant Pandit (Tabu) decides to find her existence? Do her family, friends and the society in general accept it?
ASTITVA is a excellent attempt in handling an extra-marital relationship. In most Hindi films, it is the man who gets home another woman. But, in this case, it is the married woman (Tabu) who, in a moment of weakness, indulges in a sexual encounter with a man (Mohnish Bahl) who is not her husband.
The film exposes the dual standards adopted by an Indian male; rules that are different for man and woman. The film has some marvellous scenes of confrontation between Sachin Khedekar and Tabu.
The emotional scenes, featuring Tabu, are a treat to watch. The climax, of course, takes the viewer by surprise and was the best way out to culminate the story. Her r outburst in the end is a resounding slap on the face of the husband who has treated his wife like a piece of garbage for all these years
Tabu has given an fantabulous performance all the way with great ease she potrays the role beautifully.this film is yet another effort on the part of the actress to showcase the talent she possesses. An award winning performance
Sachin Khedekar also delivers a great performance as Tabu’s husband. Mohnish Behl is average. Ravindra Mankani, as Sachin Khedekar’s childhood friend, is ok in his role. Namrata Shirodkar to delivers a great performance in a short role.
ASTITVA is a thought-provoking film that defies the social structure of this rude society. Go for it
